Estonia´s capital is a wonderful city steeped in tradition and history. Having been part of Soviet Russia until the early 1990s, today it is a fascinating mix of communities and attitudes. Like most post-Communist countries they have embraced technology and style and have grown rapidly, creating a new elite. Tallinn has an eclectic restaurant and bar scene, mixing Scandinavian modernism with Baltic tradition. The hotel selection is improving but for a true taste of Baltic charm, we´d recommend you stay in simple artisans´ quarters, old Communist villas or converted Hanseatic townhouses.
